Young America Creative is a multidisciplinary design studio led by Meghan Dorrian & Brian Friel. We believe design is the process of discovery, guided by the parameters of material integrity, environmental responsibility, client inspiration and the partnership with artisan craftspeople. YAC has developed an architectural path with a design-build focus on detail and fabrication.


Intermediate Designer/Architect

YAC is a Santa Cruz & Oakland based studio that applies the principles of environmental awareness, quality and collaboration to projects of any scale or medium.

We are currently hiring for an Intermediate Designer/Architect who is passionate about  design, creatively driven, highly organized, detail oriented, communicative and friendly.

Responsibilities include working directly with Meghan & Brian throughout the design process - production and coordination of the building model and all documents in the drawing set, as well as client presentations, consultant coordination, material and systems research, code requirements, agency approval and project administration through construction.

We have current projects in all stages of design and construction and offer excellent exposure to all aspects of the process. Our work environment is professional but easy going and we promote a healthy work-life balance.

Job Description

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A passion for design &  collaborative attitude

  • 3-5 years of experience in custom residential and commercial projects.   

  • Experience in all phases of design and construction

  • Knowledge of detailing and how to compose a set of drawings

  • Understanding of design and construction practices and California Building Codes as well as Title 24 and ADA regulations

  • Demonstrated 3D modeling/BIM proficiency (ArchiCAD preferred) Adobe Suite, Vectorworks, Hand sketching & Physical modeling

  • Excellent 3D Modeling/Rendering skills (Rhino a plus).

  • Excellent organization & verbal and written communication skills

  • An architectural degree from an accredited architecture school

  • Residency in the San Francisco / Oakland or Santa Cruz region.
